PAINTING PRIZE
A BRASILEIRA DO CHIADO
On the day of A Brasileira’s 119th anniversary, 19th November, the works of 10 artists who won the painting competition launched by the brand and supported by the Lojas com História program, from Lisbon City Council, were revealed.
In front of an audience of more than 150 people at an event that took place at MUDE – Museu do Design, in Lisbon, 10 artists were called to the stage to receive the award: Catarina Oliveira, Nelson Ferreira, Martim Vilhena, António Faria Costa, Margarida Costa, Isabella Navarro, Catarina Mendes, Filipe Amaral, Sara Conde and Rui Braz.
With this award that celebrates the centenary of the first generation of paintings, A Brasileira reconnects with the arts by promoting new values in the field of visual arts, especially painting, as was also the purpose of its founder, Adriano Telles, when in 1925 There he placed 10 works by new painters. This is an example of the intersection between Culture and Economy, two universes that are so often at odds, but when they come together, they obtain amazing results.
The event was attended and participated by the Director of MUDE, Bárbara Coutinho, the Municipal Director of Culture of Lisbon City Hall, Laurentina Pereira; the Municipal Director of Economy and Innovation of Lisbon City Council, Margarida Figueiredo, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Pedro Machado, and the Secretary of State for Culture, Maria de Lurdes Craveiro. Even before the award was announced, Catarina Carvalho, from Mensagem de Lisboa, moderated a gathering that included the participation of Paulo Almeida Fernandes, art historian and coordinator of the Research and Inventory service at the Lisbon Museum, and Maria de Aires Silveira, from the National Museum of Contemporary Art of Chiado, both judges of the award.
The other participants were invited to exhibit their works in a collective exhibition at the Bread Museum, in Seia, in 2025.
